Ok, I've been doing work out the ass and I'm tired, so I thought I'd come on here and rant for a bit.

I've been doing a lot of thinking, and...I don't consider myself Republican any more. When I was home over spring break, I was reading the magazines my parents have around (Rush Limbaugh and National Review) and I realized, I really don't agree with a lot they say. And the party line is a bit too much for me to tow. so yeah...

But I still don't consider myself a Democrat. What's a girl to do? Well, this girl did some research, and...I think that I'm Libertarian.

Yeah. That's right. Now of course there's some issues I disagree with them on, but I've found that they best fit my personal philosophy. Now, personally, I didn't know anything about Libertarians before I did my research, and it has come to my attention that a lot of people don't. When I told Jenna, she said "Why do you want to be a Nazi Republican?" So I thought, that here would be a good place to explain Libertarianism as I understand it and how I feel about their stance on certain issues. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. But from the stuff I've read, this is what I've gathered.

*Reguarding the party's stance on issues, I'm reffering to their official platform, which can be found at http://www.lp.org/issues/platform/preamble.html#toc Please go there to see the facts and everything. I'm not going to post all of it here.

Basically, Libertarians believe the government should be as small as possiable and should stay out of people's personal lives. People should have the legal right to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't interfere with other's rights. They also believe in a free and open market. Capitalism works, and it works best when the government is not regulating it and controling a monopoly on certain markets. I agree with all this stuff. Here's a break down of the important issues (the ones I consider important).

WAR ON DRUGS/DRUG REFORM
The war on drugs is huge drain on our economy and our society. Prisons are overcrowded because of non-violent drug offenders. Making drugs illegal creates a black-market economy around them. It works on violence and corruption. If you don't believe it, look at proabition. Violence sky rocketed in the 20's because of the formation of the Mafia and other illegal alcohol smuggling rings. The same is true of our current drug cartels. If drugs were legalized, the violence and corruption surrounding them would not be necessary. Adults should be responsiable for their own lives.

I agree with this mostly. I do think, however, that hard drugs should be regulated and that minors should not be exposed to them. I think the most important step in this tho, is legalization of marajuana. It just makes economic and social sense.

LIFESTYLE LAWS/GAY MARRIAGE
The government has no right to regulate the sexual practices of consenting adults. Any law that limits a person's right to live their life in the fashion that they choose is wrong and an infringement of the seperation of church and state. The government is not here to make moral decisions for us.

I agree with this completly. Personall, I don't see why the government is even involved in the whole marriage issue to begin with. If people want to be married, let them go to their church and do it there. Why should the government be involved at all? And if they must be, then it must be equally among all people. Personally, as a Christian, I can believe that homosexuality is a sin, but I also believe that this country was founded on the idea that all people are equal. All people have the right to live the way they want, as long as they are not hindering others.

CENSORSHIP

Censorship is an infringment of the 1st ammendment, and should not be tollerated. I agree with this almost completly. I do think there are some things that are inappropriate for the public sphere where children may see/hear them (porn and such). But otherwise, fuck the FCC.

RIGHT TO BARE ARMS

Once again, its in the Constitution. It is there for a reason, and we have that right. I agree. I do think that some form of control is good, but basically what is in place right now is enough. I come from a rural background, my roots in the south especially. I know people who actually hunt for food. I know people who hunt for sport. I know people who shoot targets for sport. Why the hell shouldn't they be allowed to do that? Also, see the same argument reguarding drugs. If you outlaw guns completly, you make an even bigger black market around them which results in MORE violence, not less.

MILITARY CONSCRIPTION

It's stupid and wrong and shouldn't exist. next.

RIGHT TO PRIVACY

The government doesn't have to know everything about you. There's some talk about a government issued medical card or some such thing which basically has everything about you on it. They say it would help apprehend criminals. I say it also makes it easier for criminals to gather your personal information. There's no reason for it, and it's none of the government's business.

ABORTION

This is one I kind of dissagree with the party on. They say that the government shouldn't make laws that go one way or the other, that it should still remain an option for women. However, Libertarians are also against any kind of violence, because it is a violation of a person's right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. So, if you believe that an unborn fetus is a living person, then to kill it is a violation of said rights. So I feel that its ok for me to be Pro-Life and still Libertarian.

FREE TRADE

Capitalism works. Look at the facts, it just does. And it works best when the government doesn't interfere and when the government doesn't control a monopoly on one market (see social security). Therefore, Libertarians support free and open trade within the United States and with other countries.

PRIVATEISING SOCIAL SECURITY

Once again, capitalism works. And it works like this...many different venders compete to provide a good or service. Competition results in better products, better and faster service, and lower prices. Right now, the government has a monopoly on Social Security. Monopolies work like this...you go to them for the good/service or you don't get it at all. This results in crappy goods (see the state highways and interstates) and poor service (think of anything the government does, at all...public schools, the post office, DMV, IRS, ODOT). It makes sense to open the possiablity for private social security. People would get more money, resulting in a better economy.

Ok, there's more I could write about, but its late and I'm tired and I've given you all enough to think about for now. Night!

I want someone to know me
Maybe tell who I am
Cause I've faced down my demons
And cried out to a God
A God I've never seen
Lights

And the world darkens around me
Strange friends all surround me
New ideas in my head start to burn
Dropped out of schools cause of things I never learned
-Darkness, Third Eye Blind

(don't take me too seriously. believe it or not, I'm in a good mood and somehow i think these lyrics reflect that in a twisted ironic sort of way)

http://imdb.com/title/tt0062622/board/nest/15755255

for a facinating conversation reguarding Stanly Kurbric's 2001: A Space Odssey. Some people have interesting stuff to say, others have nothing to say, and most are total idiots.

I didn't feel like actually posting my opinion there, so I'll just say a few things here.

2001 is actually an amazing movie. But honestly, I didn't get it at all the first time I saw it. I thought it was stupid and boring. But now I've taken a few film classes and I really can appriciate the artisticness of the film. It really is very good. You have to be in a certain frame of mind to really understand it. I'm not going to go into details or go on a rant here, but it definantly should not be discarded. Kubric is really a genious. He's right up there with Tim Burton on my list of favorite Directors.

Just got done watching Garden State. God...I want to make movies so bad. Really. I mean, its just so beautiful. The saturated color, the camerawork, the framing, the lighting, the sound track, the everything. I literally teared up when they were all screaming outside in the rain. Not because it was sad, but because it was it was so beautiful and I want so badly to make something that amazing. And the thing is, will I ever actually get to do it?

I dunno...but I just want to so badly it hurts. Forget all the pretentious film bullshit, who cares about any of that. I just want to make something beautiful. Movies can be so beautiful, aesthetically and emotionally. I just want to do that. I mean, I have the vision, I have the drive...sometimes it just seems so clear. I want to make movies. period. I've never felt so passionate about wanting to do something before. And I don't care, I don't want to think about what the odds are that I'll actually make it. I just want to do it so badly, that it stirs me to my very fiber. maybe i do have a calling after all...

Back at camp Denie...yay. (only slightly sarcastic)
Break was alright, just bumbed around BG mostly. Got to see some of my Otsego friends, that was cool. Got Miss Kitty fixed, lived at Grounds for a day, turned nocturnal, saw Ring Two. Oh, and picked up a drunken hitch hiker (that was probably the highlight of my week, i'm not sure if that's sad or funny or both).

hmmm...just when I thought ki couldn't get prettier he goes and gets a hair cut. I love living on the boy's hall.

I ordered Outside Providence from Amazon like a week before break and it still isn't here. fuckers, I hate Amazon and their one click shopping. I want my damn movie.

I still haven't seen Be Cool. I'm begining to think I never will.

I have so much work to do, I just might die. But I really don't want to. I haven't even STARTED editing my film and its due tuesday AND my screenplay which is due tomorrow is not finished AND my take-home-midterm for my adaptation class which is due Wed. morning isn't done either!! And that's all after spending 6 hours of doing homework in one day over break! so logically I'm writing in my blog instead of doing work. fuck it.

Dear Kristin - no sweat. Feel better love!

my comp's been down for a while, but no more. yay for boys who know about computers!
so...whats been goin on in my life...

I found out my research proposal got accepted for this summer. This means I get to live on campus (paid for) and get paid $3000 to do art for 10 weeks! I'm so uber psyched. My project is a book of prints based off of people's scars. So if you have an interesting scar with an interesting story, lemme know.

Shaggy visited this weekend. Hung out with him and everyone Thursday night. We were supposed to go see Be Cool with him Friday, but due to confusion reguarding the time they had already left by the time we got to king. It was ok tho, we hung out with Noah and watched a bunch of movies.

Saturday Elia, Jenna, Sara and I went to the DISA tallent show. It was really good. Props to everyone in it. Annie and Miako, you did awsome! After the show we went to the Vagina Monologues. I didn't think I would like it, but it was actually not what I expected, I liked a large portion of it. Snaps to the lovely ladies. Abby, I love your angry vagina. After THAT show we watched some law and order and then went to a late showing of The Jacket at Easton. It was a really good movie. I recomend it highly. It's kinda combination of Jacob's Lader and Donnie Darko - if that souns good, go see it.

Last night the Sklar brothers were on campus. They were hilarious. It's been a pretty awsome few days, but now I have to do mass quantities of work to make up for mass quantities of slacking.

I will be home for break in a few days. Could someone possiably hold a ticket for the play for me? I'd be ever greatful. Can't wait to see yall again.

there's an update.

As Usual, Foamy says exactly what I am thinking.

FOAMY's Rant III:
HOW ABOUT THIS....
STOP WITH THE FUCKING REALITY SHOWS. I AM SO SICK OF THIS FUCKIN' BULLSHIT WITH THE
FUCKING FAKE-ASS MARRIAGES FOR MONEY, THE MUNCHKIN BACHELOR SHIT, AND ANYTHING
THAT HAS TO DO WITH GREEDY MOTHERFUCKERS WHO WILL DEGRADE THEMSELVES FOR CASH.
.
AND THAT SIMPLETON LIFE WITH FRENCH HILTON AND THAT OTHER ILLIGITIMATE
WHORE. HOW COME THESE DUMB BITCHES DIDN'T GET TRAMPLED BY FUCKIN' CATTLE ON THAT
FARM. I'M SO SICK OF SOME PSUEDO-ATTRACTIVE BIMBO SELLING HER SOUL BECAUSE SHE'S
FUCKIN' STUPID. YOU WANT REALITY? HOW ABOUT A REALITY SHOW WHERE YOU OIL UP THAT
HILTON BITCH AND THROW HER NAKED INTO AN ALL MALE JAIL FILLED WITH SERIAL KILLERS
AND SADISTS. GIVE THEM A BUNCH OF 12 INCH SHARP OBJECTS AND LET EM LOOSE ON HER
ASS.
YEAH, WELCOME TO REALITY!
AND DON'T GIVE ME THAT "YOU'RE SO CRUEL" BULLSHIT. NOT ONLY WOULD YOU HAVE A
REALITY SHOW THAT PEOPLE WOULD ACTUALLY WANT TO WATCH, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE A GREAT
START FOR A SERIES ON AN ALL NEW NETWORK CALLED THE "SNUFF" CHANNEL. THE WHOLE
CHANNEL WOULD BE DEDICATED TO THE ELIMINATION OF A FUCKIN' MORON, EVERY HALF
HOUR! I WOULD BE PERSONALLY INVOLVED IN EVERY SHOW AND WOULD WORK OVERTIME TO
ENSURE THAT 48 IDIOTS WERE REMOVED FROM SOCIETY EVERY DAY.
SEE, I HAVE IDEAS, AND THIS FUCKING FEARIE FACTOR SHIT. OH, WOOPDEE-DOO...EAT A
BUNCH OF LIQUIFIED RATS AND WE'LL GIVE YOU 3,000 DOLLARS. I'M SO SICK OF THESE SHOWS
THAT TRY TO INDUCE FEAR. YOU WANT TO SEE FEAR, HOW ABOUT I SIT YOUR FUCKIN'
CONTESTANTS DOWN IN A SMALL ROOM, CHAIN EM DOWN NAKED INTO METAL CHAIRS THAT
ARE WIRED TO A HEATING SYSTEM. WHAT YOU DO, IS THEN YOU TURN UP THE HEAT SLOWLY
OVER A 32 HOUR PERIOD, SLOWLY INCREASING THE AMMOUNT OF HEAT CONDUCTED THROUGH
THE METAL CHAIRS UNTIL IT'S AS HOT AS A BRANDING IRON. AND ONCE THEY'VE PASSED OUT
DUE TO THE EXTREME PAIN BROUGHT ABOUT BY A 32 HOUR BURNING FLESH FEST, HANG EM
ON A WALL BY THEIR ARMS, IN A ROOM WHERE THE ONLY VISABLE THING IS A SIGN THAT SAYS
"YOU HAVE THIS MUCH TIME LEFT TO LIVE" WITH A COUNTDOWN UNDERNEATH, STARTING AT
24 HOURS AND COUNTING DOWN BY THE SECOND.
SO NOW THEY GOTTA HANG THEIR, JUST WATCHING THE CLOCK...WONDERING WHAT'S
GOING TO HAPPEN... HOW ARE THEY GONNA DIE....WILL IT BE WORSE THAN THE HEATING
CHAIR....WHO KNOWS.....
ONCE THE CLOCK GETS DOWN TO THE FINAL SECOND YOU TURN ON THE LIGHTS AND YELL
"SURPRISE".... AND IF THEY DON'T DIE OF A HEART ATTACK, YOU HIT EM IN THE FACE WITH A
LARGE PIE. ....SIT BACK, ALL LAUGH, PRETEND IT'S ALL A JOKE.....LULL THEM INTO A FALSE
SENCE OF SECURITY BY SAYING, "YOU'VE WON 10 MILLION DOLLARS", ...THEN TAKE OUT THE
RAZORS AND SALT. YOU PUT ONE CUT ON THEIR BODY, 2 INCHES LONG, EVERY 15 MINUTES,
AND THEN HIRE SOME TOOTHLESS BUM TO SLOWLY TEAR OPEN THE WOUNDS WITH HIS FILTHY
FINGERNAILS WHILE POURING SALT IN THE CUTS AT THE SAME TIME!
I COULD GO ON, BUT I THINK THAT'S A LITTLE TOO MUCH REALITY FOR SOME OF YOU.
AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT "HOW SICK AND TWISTED" THE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS ARE
IN THIS CARTOON...YOU DON'T LIKE IT, TOO BAD....IF TELEVISION HAD SOME DECENT SHOWS TO
OCCUPY AND ENTERTAIN MY MIND, I WOULDN'T HAVE SUCH DEMENTED THOUGHTS
SO IT'S YOUR FAULT....WELCOME TO REALITY TV ASSHOLES!
